Date: ca. late 19th - early 20th century
A pair of very decorative chairs with lots of elaborately turned woodwork. They have two tiers of baluster shaped spindles forming attractive arches, and turned legs and stretchers. The woodwork has been painted in glossy white. They have been reupholstered with a fresh coloured blueish fabric that complements the neo-gothic Arts & Crafts look of the chairs; the star/flower like motif of the fabric has been finished off with bronze coloured flower-like upholstery tacks.
Dimensions: 67 cm high to top rail, 48 cm high to seat, 37 cm wide back, 42 cm wide seat (at widest point), 41 cm depth , 7 kg each
Condition: Used and adapted. The chairs have been repaired, painted and reupholstered. Repairs have been made to a spindle that was missing a chunk; this has been remolded. They have been painted with a glossy white lacquer. They have been reupholstered with a Jacquard woven fabric, new foam seats and webbing. The chairs are very sturdy. The wood (oak) displays nicks and dents (under the paint) as consistent with their age.
