A rare and quirky silver plated condiment pot made by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) in the geometric Viennese Secessionist Style. The special hinged lid makes this a very unique as well as practical piece. When you push over the ‘arch’ the lid lifts up to reveal an inside that is composed of two fitted (removable) thick walled glass containers. The circular outer casing is pierced with long rectangular shaped designs. This pot is probably intended for jams or savoury condiments and would be a handy and handsome addition to your table.
The maker’s marks to the base were used between 1918 and 1925. The NS indicates nickel silver, and the ‘14’ the grams of silver used. There is stamp ‘Württ. Metallw. Fabrik Geislingen-Steige’ and the abbreviation ‘WMF’ in a rectangle.
Dimensions: 15.5 cm high (to top of arch hinge), 11 cm diameter, 0.700 kg
Condition: Very Good. The hinge mechanism is smooth and the glass containers are in perfect condition. The silver plating is still very good. There are some minute surface scratch marks to the top. The table is not in its original form
