Date: 20th century, probably 1970s
A shiny and shimmering little vase made from translucent blue and green coloured enamels that have been applied to a layer of copper. This coating of shiny copper with translucent enamels results in a beautiful and special effect. The rim of this cylindrical shaped vase has asymmetrical petal shapes. The petals are very fine. The body has a ‘scrunched’ effect.
Limoges, France is the epi-centre of the European enameling tradition where the art was practiced since the Middle Ages, many modern artists from the area have followed suit and produced pieces similar to this one. The vase bears a label indicating ‘Emaux Limoges J.V. Dubois’
Dimensions: 14.7 cm high, 5 cm diameter
Condition: Very good. No chips or cracks on the body. Due to the thinness of the ‘petals rims’ the copper under layer is visible in certain spots as the enamel has flaked slightly (see photo).
