Date: ca. 1900-1940
A stunningly beautiful decanter set made of a rare mauve coloured hand-blown glass. The set, comprised of the decanter and four glasses, has been decorated with crisp floral patterns applied with the silver overlay technique. The glass has an inner coating of white; another unusual feature, and one that makes the gradation in colour from dark to light stand out nicely. The stopper is made of clear glass and also has silver overlay.
The silver overlay technique was patented in the 1870’s and was especially popular between the 1920’s and the start of WWII. It was produced primarily (but not exclusively) in Bohemia, Venice and England. This set has no maker’s marks.
Dimensions: Decanter: 26 cm high without stopper (32.5 cm with), 6.5 cm diameter foot; glasses: 9.5 cm high, 5.5 cm wide at top
Condition: Very good. No damage or thinning of the silver.
