Vintage Psychedelic Copper Enamel Dish
Date: 20th century
This dish may be little but its vibrancy is big! It is made with transparent coloured enamels that have been thickly and artfully applied to a layer of shiny copper. The colours range from blues, greens and purples in the background to which aqua and orange tinted ‘blobs’ of opaque enamel have been applied. The overall impression is one of the psychedelic 70s.
Limoges, France is the epi-centre of the European enameling tradition where the art was practiced since the Middle Ages, many modern artists from the area have followed suit and produced pieces similar to this one. The dish has no marks or signatures and so its origins and date cannot be narrowed down, but it can be presumed to be from a Limoges manufacture.
Dimensions: 13.7 cm long, 8,7 cm wide, 1 cm deep.
Condition: overall good condition. Exception is the chip on the under edge on one side (shown on photo); the chip is not visible when dish is displayed in normal position.
