Date: ca 1900
This claret jug is a magnificent example of true Art Nouveau workmanship. The jug, in clear light green coloured crystal, has been artfully ornamented with organically swirling floral mounts on the neck and lip, as well as the base and graceful handle. The metal is pewter that has been silver plated in certain areas, such as the inner rim and lid. The base has been loaded (i.e. filled with a heavy material to add stability).
There are two hallmarks that ascribe the piece to Victor Saglier (1809–1894), a French gold and silversmith.
Dimensions: 29 cm high, 10 cm diameter base, ± 13 cm wide at widest point, 1.230 kg
Condition: Very Good. The jug has no defects besides from the tarnishing of the metal over time. The silver in the rim (under the lid) has thinned somewhat.
NOTE: Please bear in mind that the colour varies depending on lighting conditions, background, your screen resolution settings, etc. I also provide a photo with a white background to showcase the object with a light background scheme.
